Terrible Portrait Party Game
A cozy evening with friends, laughter filling the room, drinks in hand, and the walls adorned with some of the most hilariously terrible portraits you’ve ever seen. Sounds like a perfect night, right? Welcome to the ultimate terrible portrait challenge, where four friends gather to create portraits of each other and a self-portrait, with the goal of discovering who can craft the best, most creative, and most delightfully awful artwork.
Setting the Scene
Gather your friends in a comfortable space with ample seating and a large table or workspace. Stock up on a variety of art supplies, including paper, colored pencils, markers, paints, and even some unconventional materials like glitter and stickers for an extra dose of fun.
To keep the creative juices flowing, prepare a selection of drinks that cater to everyone’s taste. Whether it’s a classic cocktail, a craft beer, or a mocktail, make sure there’s something for everyone to sip on while they channel their inner Picasso (or rather, their inner “bad Picasso”).
The Challenge
The rules are simple: each participant must create a portrait of the other three friends and a self-portrait. The portraits can be as realistic or as abstract as desired, but the ultimate aim is to see who can produce the best, most creative, and most wonderfully terrible pieces of art.
These instructions are for a 2 hour game. You can adjust the time that each person gets and make it as long or as short as you want.
Round One: The Self-Portrait
Give everyone 30 minutes to create a self-portrait. This will warm up those artistic muscles and set the tone for the evening. Remember, the goal is not perfection; it’s all about having fun and embracing the quirks.
Round Two: Portrait of Friend #1
Each person will have 30 minutes to create a portrait of the first friend. Encourage everyone to think outside the box and add whimsical elements or exaggerated features.
Round Three: Portrait of Friend #2
Repeat the process for the second friend. By now, the drinks will be kicking in, and the creativity (and laughter) will be at an all-time high.
Round Four: Portrait of Friend #3
Finally, create a portrait of the third friend. At this point, everyone should be fully immersed in the joy of creating wonderfully terrible art.
Judging and Awards
Once all the portraits are complete, it’s time for the big reveal! Display all the artwork and take a moment to appreciate the unique styles and hilarious interpretations. Come up with fun or silly awards for each category. To add an element of friendly competition, each person will rate the other portraits on a scale of 1 to 5 for the following categories:
Best Portrait
The most skillfully executed piece of art (relatively speaking, of course)
Most Creative
The portrait that showcases the most out-of-the-box thinking
Most Terrible
The piece that is delightfully awful in the best possible way.
Most Expressive
The portrait that captures the most emotion or personality.
This terrible portrait challenge is more than just a fun night with friends; it’s an opportunity to celebrate creativity, laughter, and the joy of imperfection. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or someone who hasn’t picked up a paintbrush since elementary school, this challenge is a reminder that art is for everyone, and sometimes the most memorable creations come from embracing the wonderfully terrible.
Gather your friends, pour some drinks, and get ready to embark on a night of artistic adventure. Who knows? You might just discover a hidden talent for creating delightfully dreadful masterpieces. Cheers to creativity and a night you’ll never forget!
